What are Anxiety Disorders?
Anxiety disorders are a group of psychiatric disorders. Anxiety essentially means a state of nervous tension. A large number of words that describe different levels of anxiety tell us how extensive and complex this term is. Fever, trembling, tension, nervousness, fear and worries are just some of them, which describe otherwise quite different conditions, which are shown with similar signs.
Green Tea for Anxiety
Green tea is a tea that we drink especially for pleasure. Is green tea for anxiety appropriate to drink? Did you know that it can help you relax? Yes it can and you can thank L-theanine for this. L-theanine is an amino acid found in green tea leaves (Camelia sisnensis leaves).
In a double-blind study involving 12 people, the effect of L-theanine on psychological and physiological responses to stress was investigated. They concluded that L-theanine certainly relieves anxiety. It is responsible for preventing the binding of L-glutamic acid to glutamate receptors, as well as for slowing down the heart rate. Green tea is therefore well-known as an herb to alleviate anxiety.
L-theanine increases the activity of the GABA neurotransmitter, which has an anti-anxiety and antidepressant effect. It also increases the amount of dopamine and the production of alpha waves in the brain.
Studies have shown that caffeine and L-theanine have a synergistic effect. The combination of both is particularly strong in improving the functioning of the brain. Because of L-theanine and a small amount of caffeine, green tea is wonderful and has a milder and different effect than coffee. Many people say they have more stable energy and are more productive if they drink green tea instead of coffee (too much coffee can trigger anxiety and tension).
Why you should treat Anxiety Problem?
You can fight against anxiety with green tea and other calming teas as chamomile. However, it is advisable to exclude the possibility of health problems that may cause similar symptoms as anxiety (thyroid problems, hypoglycemia, and asthma).
When you exclude health problems, it is wise to consult a therapist to help you determine the type of anxiety and treatment. Anxiety is to be treated with therapy or with medication, if you suffer from severe anxiety.
If you don’t suffer from severe anxiety then you can try to solve it with a green tea. If the problem stays and cause you problems in daily life, consult with a doctor.
We all do not have anxiety disorder. A lot of other factors may also cause anxiety, including a banal cause, such as an excessive amount of coffee. It is therefore important that we take care of our body, health, have enough sleep, physical activity and free time. No one can do this for us.
No more Depression
Green tea is an excellent remedy for anxiety but also for depression. Experts from the Tohoku Japanese University have shown that older people who drink green tea every day have a significantly lower risk of depression than those who don’t drink this type of tea.
In their study, relatively healthy volunteers over 70 years of age participated. For those who consumed 4 cups of the beverage every day, the risk of depression was as much as 44 percent lower than those who had a coffee or other types of teas.
Scientists assume that the L-theanine amino acid found in green tea leaves is responsible for this. It works calming, as it affects psychological and physical relaxation, lowers stress levels and reduces the sense of concern. In addition, it stimulates the production of dopamine hormones and thus ensures good mood.
Live a Long and Healthy Life
Studies have shown that people in countries with high green tea consumption, especially in China and Japan, have a very low degree of morbidity for various forms of cancer (breast, colon, lung, pancreas, esophagus and stomach).
On the other hand, Japan has the largest number of smokers among developed countries and, on the other hand, the lowest level of morbidity for lung cancer, which is attributable to the consumption of green tea.
Women who teach about Japanese drinking tea and therefore drink more green tea than average have found a significantly longer life expectancy and significantly lower possibility for cancer.
The medicinal properties of green tea derive mainly from its active substances, catechins, which are potent polyphenolic antioxidants. They belong to the subgroup of flavonoids, which are mostly found in vegetables, fruits, tea, coffee, chocolate and wine. Antioxidant potential of green tea, measured by phenolic antioxidant index, is significantly higher than the antioxidant potential of red wine.
Because green tea is produced from fresh, unfermented tea leaves (black tea from fermented), catechin oxidation is minimal and their antioxidant potential is relatively high.
